Snowflakes keep falling on my head...

It's a pretty big deal when snow falls down here, and this time, the forecast was actually right!

It snowed about 5 inches, probably more today, and it's supposed to snow again tomorrow. People pretty much freak out when it snows. John and I like to sit back, and just watch all the 'crazies' go to Wal-Mart and empty the shelves of 'necessities'. But actually, it snowed, and then the freezing rain came down, so the roads are pretty bad.

I took a picture this morning of our house in the snow. Pretty.

I hope it snows again tomorrow. It's an awesome excuse for laziness. All I did today was clean, laundry, and watch episode after episode of Grey's Anatomy (my new obsession)! John did a few projects on the house, and then went sledding with some friends. It's been a good day! Just wish it was a week day so there would be a cancellation, but hey...a girl can dream for Monday!

Hard does not = bad...it's just hard

John and I had a very important doctor's visit yesterday. We met with a fertility specialist at the Jones Institute to see if there was anything they could help us with, whether it was with medicine, or an actual procdure. There were some good things, and some not so good things about our appiontment.

I should first mention that we made this appointment back in October, and have been anxiously awaiting it since! I changed insurance to go on John's plan, since we were told by Optima Health that they cover infertility office appintments, and treatments. I chose a really crappy plan when I started work in August (totally my fault!), and it doesn't cover anything. The cosultation alone would have been $400! It was a big decision to change insurances, because it is much more expensivce per month for me to be on John's plan. We crunched the numbers, and decided it was totally worth the extra money each month. On John's insurance, Optima Health, our special office visits are $40...phew...what a relief!

Our doctor confirmed that two out of the three miscarriages we've had, have all been viable, and that we are getting pregnant, just not sustaining the pregnancy. She thinks the best thing to do is start me on certain hormones, and track my cycles from day 1, and kind of control my cycles. She also suggested that she does a procudeure, which includes an xray of my uterus inflated with a dye liquid to see if there are any abnormalities. I've heard this is an excrusiating procudure...but I'll do anything. We both agreed while talking to our doctor that we'd go ahead with the procedure, only to find out that my new insurance (the one that's supposed to be AMAZING for infertility patience) does not cover it, and the procedure alone would cost close to $900! On top of that, the doctor also told us that Anthem Health Keepers (the insurance I just dropped) has certain plans that are actually better for a patient like myself. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! 'You have to be kidding me!', was I think the exact words out of my and John's mouth.

So....with that news, we decided to not go ahead with the procedure/xray exam right now. Instead, we're going to wait for my cycle to begin, and I'll have specific blood work drawn. After they get the information from the blood work, I'll start taking meds to help my hormones being way out of wack (which is causing the continual miscarriages).

I walked out of the appointment disappointed, but in some ways, it was what I was totally expecting. I know, it's sad to admit, but why would anything good come out of this? We've faced these kind of appointments before...so it was kind of what we were expecting. I have to continually remind myself of the positive: I have insurance, we've saved up for these appointments, and most of all hard does not equal bad, it's just hard. It's okay for me to go through some hard times. It's not going to kill me, I'm not going to lose myself in this, and I can stand some pain. Hard is not bad, it's just hard.

I'll keep you updated...

Welcome Home Stew & Claire!

Our friends Stew and Claire went back home to South Africa for two months, and John and I threw them a WELCOME BACK TO THE STATES party! The theme (loosely) was red, white, and blue. It was good to see them, and catch up...and they loved seeing all their friends at once celebrating them being home! Here are a few pictures from the night :)

Wrinkled Nose

I love when my husband laughs really hard, and his nose wrinkles up. Exhibit A...

Heidi McFadden <3

I am SO excited that my girlfriend Heidi is coming in for a weekend visit! We met her, and her husband last October at the YMCA in WV. We were on the treadmill, and I just decided to start making conversation...there's no harm in that, right? After we chatted for a few minutes, I asked if they'd want to hang out sometime, and we exchanged phone numbers. For the four months that John and I lived in WV, we spent a lot of time with Heidi and Colin. When we started spending time with them, they had just been married for only 3 weeks...so it was great to hang out with them as a newly married team! After we moved from WV, I missed Heidi so much! Her sense of humor, motivated spirit, outlook on life and so on. I am SO excited to get to spend a few days with her this weekend. I was laughing with her on the phone the other day about how I haven't seen her in 9 months, but I only knew her for 4 months...weird, huh?! Are there people on your life that you only knew for a short time, but they made a significant impact on your life? Someone who you won't just remember, but someone you'll likely keep in contact with, and share life with?

NY Meatloaf

Growing up, I loved watching my mom's hands when she made meatloaf...call me a weirdo...but it was fun!

The meatloaf was good...nothing out of this world, but the prep of mushing all of the ingredients (raw meat, raw egg...) was fun for me. My beautiful mom, all prim and proper with her hands covered in raw beef and dripping egg...there was something kinda cool about it!

So...this one's for you...my beautiful NY Mama.

Broccoli

John bought some frozen vegetables a few weeks ago at Food Lion, and came home with a few bags of this specific frozen broccoli. Now, to everyone else this may be normal, but I have never seen Steam - In - Bags before. It's awesome! You don't have to cook it on the stove top and wait for it to be the perfect 'tenderness' if you will. It cooks in this package, in the microwave for 4-5 minutes and comes out perfect! It's not too hard, not too mushy...and there's no pot...hence no cleaning! Yah! I know, I know...cheap thrills.

Good weekend with even better friends

We spent the weekend with our best friends Matt & Katey Toller. Every time we hang out with them, the time is spent laughing, and having great conversation. We are so blessed to have them in our lives. We are also their daughter's godparents...which is SUCH an honor! Here are a few pictures from our DOLLER (Dorr/Toller) slumber party weekend!

A sign perhaps...??

I was in the office last night, when John told me from the kitchen that we got diapers in the mail. I was a little confused, since this has never happened before. He assured me he was serious. Here is how the conversation went:

John: "Hey Leah! I think 2010 is the year of our baby!"

Leah: "Why?"

John: "Because we got diapers in the mail...and I'm totally serious!"

Hey...we'll take whatever we can get! Maybe this is a 'sign'. John and I don't really believe in 'signs', but maybe a foreshadowing if you will.

I think I'm still dethawing...

I've been not looking forward to this day since I left my classroom on Tuesday, December 22nd. Now for all of you who are not teachers, you probably think Winter Break is a luxury...nah...it's a necessity!

I made a nice home cooked meal last night, with LOTS of left-overs for this week's lunches. I anticipated a busy week of catching up after a week and a half of no school. I woke up this morning with a really good attitude, and positive mindset. 'It's going to be a great day!'

Today I returned to work, and to a veryyyyyyyyy coooooooooold classroom! The thermostat showed 48 degrees in my classroom. I quickly put my jacket back on and visited a few other classrooms to see if they were experiencing the same thing. They sure were...the heat was broken in the building! There was a Kindergarten classroom down the hall, and their thermostat was at 40 degrees!!!!

What a horrible way to return to work! They were able to get the heat working again, and now my students and myself are slowly de-thawing...but it's been a pretty rough morning!
